Differential equations
This active area of research explores how quantum algorithms can help solve differential equations that describe physical systems and processes, such as fluid dynamics, heat transfer, electromagnetic fields, and quantum mechanical systems. Approaches include quantum algorithms for linear systems of equations, which can be applied to certain discretized differential equations, as well as quantum methods for differential equations that directly exploit quantum circuits or quantum state representations. These techniques can offer computational advantages for specific large-scale problems, particularly when the solution can be efficiently encoded in and extracted from a quantum state. However, their practical benefits depend on factors such as problem structure, data encoding, hardware requirements, and the cost of retrieving the solution.
